The owner and operator of Lake Burley Griffin Cruises is Jim Paterson, who has lived in Canberra with his wife Virginia since the early 1980s. Jim had a long and successful career in broadcasting and television before turning his attention to the water in 2003. His entertaining and well-researched commentary is one of the highlights of your lake cruise. The Boats; Our first boat Cygnet was converted from the steam launch Jenny and commenced service in 2003. It’s a replica Edwardian style electric launch. Cygnet was the first commercial all electric vessel on Lake Burley Griffin, and the uniquely quiet ride adds an extra element of tranquillity to the cruise. The MV Gull commenced service in October 2009, increasing the passenger carrying capacity and enhancing our range of services. In 2012 Gull was converted to all electric. Both electric boats are running on green energy charging their batteries overnight. Our Awards: Apart from our most recent achievement the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, we have twice received recognition for our services to tourism with a commendation in the ACT and Region Tourism Awards and we were awarded an 'outstanding visitor experience' in the 2009 ACT and Region Tourism Awards. Our scheduled cruises depart from Commonwealth Place Queen Elisabeth Terrace in Barton. If you are coming by car there is usually parking in the Questacon Car Park. If you come by Taxi insist that the driver puts Queen Elisabeth Terrace in his GPS. The wharf is also a short walk from the Questacon, the National Library and the High Court. The wharf is in front of the row of flags.
